20th Annual
Great Southern Antique Car Rally
Cairo, GA
May 10-11, 2008
The citizens of Cairo, GA. have again outdone themselves in putting on one of
the premier annual car events in this area. This year’s event was a special one
for some of our club members - Wayne and Rosa Ann Hadden, Bobby and Nell
Hollingsworth and Randolph and Janie Brock were recognized for attending all 20
events! That’s quite an accomplishment.
As usual, we
were all feted with a great barbeque dinner prior to a gas light parade that
wound through downtown Cairo. It was estimated that close to 200 cars
participated although only 135 cars were actually registered. The TRAACA
contingent was again the largest club participating (21 registered vehicles with
2 no-shows.).
Saturday’s poker
run and tour was not as long when compared to some past events, however, the
participants received a real treat with a tour of Wayne and Rosa Ann’s Antique
Auto and Fire Fighter museum.
The show in the
park was also a well attended finale to a great weekend. Here’s hoping for
another 20 (or more) years of this great event.
